Wyoming is a small village in the town of Richmond, in Washington County, Rhode Island, tucked into the wooded southwestern corner of the state that locals call South County. With only a few hundred residents in the village proper, it has a quiet, rural character shaped by tree-lined roads, farmhouses, and the slow flow of the Chipuxet River. Wyoming is best known not as a destination in itself but as a peaceful inland base for travelers exploring the beaches, parks, and historic villages of southern Rhode Island. The village lies roughly 35 to 40 miles southwest of Providence, the state's capital and nearest major city, and about ten to twelve miles north of the coastal town of Westerly.

One of the closest outdoor draws is Burlingame State Park, a sprawling wooded park only a few minutes from the village. Spanning roughly 3,100 acres, it offers campsites, hiking and horseback-riding trails, picnic areas, and access to Watchaug Pond for fishing and non-motorized boating. To the south, within about a twenty-minute drive, the South County shoreline unfolds with some of Rhode Island's most popular beaches. The town of Westerly anchors this stretch of coast and is home to the broad, family-friendly sands of Misquamicut State Beach as well as the more sheltered, upscale village of Watch Hill, where visitors wander past boutiques, ice cream shops, and the historic Watch Hill Lighthouse overlooking Block Island Sound. These oceanfront communities give Wyoming's inland setting a strong seasonal pull, as summer visitors use the village as a quieter alternative to staying directly on the beach.

A short drive to the east sits the University of Rhode Island's W. Alton Jones Campus, a 2,300-acre wooded retreat center on the edge of a freshwater pond. The campus hosts conferences, weddings, and youth programs, but it is also open to the public for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and other outdoor recreation. Its trails and event programming bring a steady flow of visitors to the area throughout the year, supplementing the heavier summer beach traffic.

For a small village, Wyoming offers short-term-rental owners an appealing combination of country calm and convenient access to South County's strongest draws. Guests can spend mornings on wooded trails or by a quiet pond, afternoons on the Atlantic beaches, and evenings returning to a low-traffic, tree-shaded neighborhood. That balance of rural character and proximity to the shoreline makes the area a versatile base for couples, families, and outdoor travelers alike.
