Saluda is a small mountain town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, sitting primarily in Polk County with a small portion extending into Henderson County. With a population of approximately 600 residents, Saluda has the feel of a quiet, walkable mountain village that has retained much of its small-town character. The town is best known for its historic downtown, the steep Saluda Grade railroad line that once challenged locomotives climbing into the mountains, and its position as a gateway to the surrounding natural attractions of the Blue Ridge foothills. About 20 to 30 minutes north of Saluda, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park offer additional draws, including a scenic mountain lake, hiking trails, and the notable Hickory Nut Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in the eastern United States. These destinations pair well with Saluda as a base for travelers looking to explore multiple aspects of the Blue Ridge foothills in one trip.

Saluda's combination of a compact, walkable downtown, a strong roster of nearby outdoor and equestrian attractions, and its quiet, less-crowded character compared to better-known mountain towns makes it a compelling base for short-term rentals.
